I like using the pen tool for the accuracy but I suppose this works too since ps got so many different ways of doing things... that's the beauty, whatever suits you :)

eh the extraction tool isn't that great. I prefer using layer masks and channels.

its sort of ironic how the imaged you used was probably photoshopped (the guy onto the city background) nice tutorial i learned something today.....
