The Emo subculture most people know about today was not even around. The Emo subculture in the 80's and 90's were more fusions of hardcore punk and pop punk, an example of the 90's Emo were bands like Weezer and their album Pinkerton, even the character Seth Cohen from the O.C is an example of the 90's Emo and was much different from the Emo culture we know today which is more associated with fashion than it is with music. Now The Cure are a Goth Rock band, very different musically to Emo Rock.
