Oh, forgot to add the vocals in to My Ashes.. so really it has 9 layers at once, unless there's some I'm forgetting from either.

I was never trying to say that all their other songs had less layering or whatever, just that FoaBP still has lots of layering too.
Believe me I know there's a lot going on in all their stuff, I listen to the dvd-audios quite frequently.

Take Deadwing like you've said: During the main verses there's: Drums, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, the "beeping" keyboard synth, the string sounding synth, vocals, an occasional extra synth for the train sound.
Then My Ashes: drums, electric, acoustic, bass, piano, that rhythmic outdoors sound faintly in the background, the main melody instrument that reminds of Led Zepplin's "No Quarter", strings.
My Ashes: 8 Deadwing: 8
Completely different songs, but similar in amount of layers.

Well, that's just in your case. I mean, to me, Mother and Child Divided is a guitar/bass oriented track but it's because you focus on those two more. That song's got layering that blends in alot. Also the title track on Deadwing does too.

Yeah, I know there's a lot of overdubs and layering on all PT albums. But there's also lots of stuff I'm STILL finding on FoaBP almost a year and a half after its release after I'd first initially thought I heard it all.
The difference is the layering is much more blended in FoaBP.. It is a lot easier to hear the layers in IA and DW because they stick out more.

no man, listen to all the overdubs on songs like arriving somewhere but not here, revenant, and half-light.

I agree on the vocal harmonies being better.. but I disagree with the layering.. there's just as much on FoaBP, it's just much more hidden.

My fave off Blank Planet. I love this track so much.
