If you LOVE guitar music – it’s likely you know who Steve Vai is.

I’ve been following steve Vai for a long time. He’s been a big part of what I listen to music wise, and also since I play guitar I owe a lot to him for shaping my own style and sound.

Throughout time I have had the pleasure of seeing Steve perform live with both Zappa and later with his own band, back when he came out with his first record, and also at NAMM.

I remember seeing Steve Vai live at the FM Machine in Los Angeles. It was a small venue and the event was magical. It also was a big deal for me because we brought our boom box and actually recorded the whole show.

While I can’t say the recording was very good quality wise – it captured what I consider among the best periods of Steve Vai’s career and documented how the musical adventure started.

Some day I’ll try to clean up that mufled cassette recording and share it – but for now – there is simply so much available that you can watch and listen to featurring steve Vai – I suggest you go and get a good dose right now!

Top Steve Vai tracks you should watch and listen to:

Steve Vai For The Love of God live with the Holland Metropole Orchestra in 2005

Steve Vai TEC Awards – Les Paul Award – good bio and background of Steve

Steve Vai – Building The Church – live – excellent song performed live

It was nice to see the playful nature of Billy Crystals pening monolgue for the 2012 Academy Awards reveal Justin Bieber haning in a car to help boost the yonger demo watching the awards show. I bet it did!

And of course the big hit of the red carpet was the Dictator played by Sascha Baron Cohen and how he spilled the ashes of Kim Jun Il on Ryan Seacrest.

At first Ryan was upset and looked liek he would cry until he was reminded he was the ONE chosen for this and that the video would go viral.

We’re doing our part to help spread the word!

It Bites. It’s weird. I know.

Every once in a while I will remember and reflect on music I used to own on vinyl  and wonder what ever happened to…

I wondered what ever happened to IT BITES, the prog rock band from my past and no doubt many others. They had a unique blend of pop vocals and hard hitting rock guitar and prog keywords in the mid to late 80′s that almost hit it big.

Unlike Top 40 or hit music in general, progressive rock music has a loyal and faithful following so very often a band that gains even marginal mass success can carve out a career super serving it’s biggest fans.

I’m glad to say this appears to be the case with It Bites, the English band that has an actual web site and sells stuff! How cool is that!

So if you’re a fan of the band or just looking for sme cool prog rock tunes to discover I have a few key songs for you to check out on live music video here at I Love Concert Videos

It Bites Calling All The Heroes – live show from 1986 at Whsitle Test – good quality almost sounds like it was a studio recording. Very good!

It Bites Live Screaming on The Beaches – 1989 in Tokyo – excellent! The y have long hair and don’t look so 1980′s goofy as when they started.

It Bites Live – Turn Me Loose –  Live Show in Alabama 1987

2011 It Bites Live Show Recording – it is mixed terribly but you can see what they look like and almost sing along!

Wow.. that was cool for me! I hope you dig It Bites! They’re worth looking up!

Blackfield’s new CD finally arrived in my mailbox and I ripped the tunes and have been digging them every morning the past few days!

Blackfield is really a cool project. I can’t tell if it is a real band or just a side prject for fun but it is nice to see Steven Wilson support it with live Blackfield performances!

I love to rock!

Well – if you asked me – one of my fondest memories of living in Southern California in the 80′s was all the great concerts and live shows that I saw featuring some of the most talented musicians who ever lived.

One fond memory I have is seeing the undeground jam band Dog Cheese live on several occasions in the Los Angeles area.

I just found an old bootleg I myself had recorded (awful quality on cassette) and listened to it. despite the low budget boom box recording it remeinded me of what a great band Dog Cheese was and of the fact they never released any records (did they?)

Here is a track from Dog Cheese from what sounds like a studio recording with credits for Michael Landau, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Tavaglione, and Larry Klein.

I know guitarist Michael Landau did a few albums and his stuff was actually pretty reminiscent of the Dog Cheese sound.

What a great band!

Vinnie Colaiuta was and is one of the greatest drummers to ever live. I just saw him on Directv with Jeff  Beck – he’s still got it!

My personal dream as a musician was to one day record with Vinnie doing the drums in place of my cheesey drum work!

OK – well enough of this fond retro talk – let’s find some more tunes from these musicians of Dog Cheese fame (or lack of!)!

Here are some Dog Cheese music links for you to explore!

Michael Landau – guiatrist

Vinnie Calaiuta – drummer

Larry Klein – bassist

Jordan Rudess has a musical message for Japan who was hit by the earthquake and tsunamis 5 days ago.

Jordan Rudess For Japan – playing the piano (inspired).

Jordan Rudess is best known as the keyboard player in Dream Theater although he is on many great recordings.

I was making my morning smoothie and coffee and I let iTunes Genius pick out some tunes for me and out comes Jordan Rudess to shake up my morning!

Man this guy is one super uber talented musician.

I decided to FINALLY take the time to look him up proper on the net and find out more about him and try to dig up some videos.

I have his album Rhythm of Time which is absolutely amazing! I must say though it has been buried in there with all those other tunes – so I rarely really spend time with it. So that’s why I thought – let’s look up and see what’s going on.

First thing I found that I was inspired to visit was the Jordan Rudess Twitter page

That’s what led me to the Musical Message for Japan video Jordan posted on Youtube.

Man – this is crazy insane – MorphWiz Surprise Jordan Rudess on Piano with split screen playing Morph lead line! Hmmm… Maybe I do want an iPad after all…

Another One RnL and Jordan Rudess with iPads – man this is awesome! Where di this come from? The notes say this is an actual recorded perfromance. These guys are killing it! Great work!

James LaBrie and RnL Interview – with musical performances edited in.

Here is a video I had already snagged with Jordan Rudess and Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree. Steven Wilson & Jordan Rudess Lazarus Live

Jordon Rudess and Rod Morganstein play at Roland during NAMM 2007 – decent quality

That’s some pretty cool stuff! I hope it sets you off on your own personal journey of music discovery!

Looking for something new and interesting?

I ran across Natalia Kills by accident and found her to be appealing and intresting.

Sex Love Control and Vanity is what Natalia Kills sings about in Mirrors – Perfromed Live

Compare her live performance to the official “music video” for Natalia Kilss Mirrors and you’ll be as amazed as I was at how great of a singer she really is.

Here we have Natalia Kills live in Paris – it may be a lip sync mix – but is till interesting visually. She can sing in real life – so why isn’t her voice more up front when she is in concrt???

More? Love is a Suicide – perfromed live in concert.

More videos of Natalia Kills In Concert – they vary in quality but are worth checking out!

There is a cool new tv show on Showtime I have been turning people onto called Look.

Look the series Trailer – get an idea by watching the promo trailer

Apparently there was a movie before that (haven’t sen it yet) but the tv show is really a novel concept and very well done. It’s fake reality tv as seen through the lenses of security cameras. It’s great fun to watch!

> More on Look the TV series on Showtime

Well – what I wanted to turn you guys onto here was some of the music from tv show. Especially the stuff with Giuseppe Andrews performing live at the gas station.

Electrocuted by Giuseppe Andrews live in Mini Mart – playing it for his buddy.

Here is the Electrocuted music video from Look they shot using security footage of their show in the mini mart!

Giuseppe Andrews plays More Songs From Look – I’m not sure but they may be recording this in a mobile home…

Don’t wanna a phone – don’t wanna fax – all I want is a bikini wax.

Bikini Wax – low budget never looked or sounded so good! Hey it makes her beaver look more like a bear!

Sexy Television – another song from Giuseppe

OK – that’s enough now – but if you’re like me – you justfound an interst in finding mroe music from Giuseppe Andrews and the tv show Look.

The band Jellyfish is LONG GONE – but we can still find cool live music videos of them peforming live!

One of my favorite live tracks on the Japanese import concert cd is Jellyfish perfoming a cover version of Badfinger No Matter What – well I found some live performaces of this song!

Jellyfish No Matter What Live on German TV Show – very cool! Check out a terrible looking video of that song live in concert but it sounds pretty good!

Jellyfish No Matter What Live Bootleg Club Lingerie – Here is another version from 1993

Jellyfish Live Badfinger Cover Song – yet another version of No Matter What – wow – there is so much cool Jellyfish music on video!

Jellyfish Joining a Fan Club – wow! A performance from New Orleans on the Split Milk tour.

One of my favorite guitar players is Steve Morse. He is kind of an underground guitar god that deserves more exposure. I will now expose Steve Morse.

You may know Steve Morse from the Dixie Dregs (the Dregs) or perhaps you know of his solo stuff as Steve Morse Band. Regardless – Steve Morse guy can play guitar! I think he also flies airplanes.

The style is hard to pin down – but jazz fusion – progressive rock – metal at times and even country funk and orchestral rock worki into the songs this guy shreds guitar on.

At the time I found out about the Dregs I was really into progressive music like Billy Cobham, Yes and Gong and Holdsworth and such and these guys were playing that kind of creative stuff.

Me and my buddies used to go to the NAMM shows in Anaheim every year and we’d usually bump into Steve Morse and some of the other Dregs like Andy West, T Lavitz and Rod Morgenstein.

Andy West is the ultimate bass player. My friend Tim used to take lessons from him when we lived up in the Bay Area.

Rod Morgenstein is one of the best drummers ever! He’s also played around – perhaps most notably with metal band Winger.

I’m guessing but I have probably seen the Dregs and – or Steve Morse perform live around a 10 or 20 times including NAMM jams and such. Somewhere I have cassettes of live shows we have recorded (awful quality of course).

What’s great about the internet is that fans of music are now sharing their recordings! There is a wealth of music from live shows and concerts out there for almost every band and recording artist.

Here are some good Steve Morse Live Performance videos to check out.

Steve Morse Band Ice Cakes Live – rock and roll and that Holdsworth sound too mixed in!

Dixie Dregs Live Concert 1981 – original lineup – Andy West, Steve Morse T Lavitz and Rod Morgenstein

Steve Morse General Lee Live 1990 – try to pin a label on thi sone!

Steve Morse Simple Simon Live Concert – performing with Steve Morse Band in 1994.

Steve Morse jamming at a Guitar Clinic – in Montana in 2008

Steve Morse Guitar Solo – long and winding just like the road.

I love to rock!

So either you love Britney Spears or you love to hate her! There is no in between.

I like watching her. The music isn’t always top rated in my book but she is always entertaining to watch.

She’s got the ultimate “doing it” voice. This live performance of Breathe by Britney Spears is very steamy.

And her look has inspired many wanna bes to dress and act just like Britney Spears does. I love when grown women take on that slutty schoolgirl look! It’s fun!

As far as music goes – who can deny that Toxic is sexy and fun! I’m not so sure she is really singing but who cares – the girl has moves!

Cjeck out Britney Spears in the Zone on the Ellen show

I love to rock!

I love Porcupine Tree! They’re the most solid progressive rock band to emerge and stay on the scene until current day!

There are a ton of fantastic videos with Porcupine Tree performing live.

Here are some of my favorite live videos from tv show performances by the band.

Porcupine Tree Trains Live on German TV

Progfest Waiting Live by Porcupine Tree

Porcupine Tree Trains Live 2003 MHZTV

Italian Language TV with Live Performance by Porcupine Tree of Open Car – very heavy!

Almost Porcupine Tree – it’s Blackfield LIVE on Israel TV

That’s some good viewing! The videos should make you smile!

Transatlantic is one of the best progressive rock bands out there and features the talents of guitarist Roine Stolt of Flower Kings, Neal Morse from Spock’s Beard, Marillion Bass player Pete Trewaves and Drummer Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater.

I stumbled upon them by accident and now I can’t get enough! I have all their cd’s (they have several actually!) but fortunately I just found a bunch of fantastic live concert videos by Transatlantic!

I’ll list them here so you can check them out! They rock!
