Double Clutch Downshifts
Backsome people keep telling me this isn't double clutching. lots of people think that you can only double clutch on upshifts (I'm not saying you need to, because you don't really need to. it just puts less stress on your tranny if done correctly). the fact is that you CAN do it on both up and downshifts (once again, I'm not saying double clutching is really needed or makes you faster) but some people think you can't do it on downshifts. it really isn't necessary (double clutching isn't very necessary to start with on a car with synchros), but that doesn't mean you can't do it and it has absolutely nothing to do with fast and the furious (in response to a few of my comments which is very disturbing by the way). the driver in the video is a pro driver and if you know how a gearbox works, you'll understand how double clutch downshifts work. upshifting and downshifting when double clutching uses the exact same principles - to manually rev match in neutral with the clutch engaged before you shift into your next gear. I do this on nearly every downshift in my every-day driving so I know exactly what I'm doing. engine revs must be increased while the gearbox is in neutral and the clutch is engaged. this requires the driver to shift into neutral, release the clutch pedal, apply throttle to bring the revs up to a suitable speed, depress the clutch again, and finally shift into gear. you can go here to learn more about transmissions: http://www.waycoolinc.com/z3/essentials/fixit/heeltoe/shifting.htm please stop telling me this isn't double clutching; it's basically double clutching on a downshift that uses heel and toe to blip the throttle (for those that argue it's just heel and toe).
