Subway ft 702 - This Little Game We Play
BackIt was 1994 when Chicago vocal group Subway's first single, This Lil' Game We Play with vocals by their Motown labelmates 702, sold over a million copies and put the group on the map. Subway, consisting of Eric McNeal, Keith Thomas, Trerail Puckett, and Roy Jones, was signed by Michael Bivins, formerly of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe, to his Motown-distributed label Biv 10. Their debut album was Good Times, whose cover art and title were inspired by the same-named CBS-TV hit sitcom of the '70s that featured a preteen, pre-stardom Janet Jackson in some episodes. Their debut single, which was produced and written by Gerald Levert and Edwin Nicholas, was billed as Subway featuring 702, and went gold, making it to number four on Billboard's R&B charts in late 1994. Another Levert and Nicholas song, Fire, went to number 34 in the spring of '95 while Gerald Levert's vocals sprinkle This Is Not a Goodbye which was their third single released later that year. Unfortunately for Subway fans, except for a single featured on the 1996 Kazaam Soundtrack, the group was never to be heard from again. Another tragic end, that seemed so common for many talented R&B groups of the 90's.
